Hi, I'm Daisy, and I'm a Popular Music student, original artist and freelance musician completing my final year at the Royal Northern College of Music!

Please read the information below for a bit about me!

Useful information

What does a typical week in your life look like?

I currently have what you call a portfolio career – this means that I spend my time doing lots of different jobs within the industry. A lot of the time you’ll find me writing music and gigging with my band. I’ve played my original music at some incredible venues over the last year, such as the Royal Albert Hall and Band On The Wall in Manchester. I also plan to record and release some original music very soon!

I also teach on the side and do regular function gigs on the weekends in bars and restaurants. As much as I enjoy teaching and doing covers gigs, in the future I would love to earn money largely from doing my original projects as that’s what I’m the most passionate about.

What do you enjoy the most about pursuing a career in music?

I definitely enjoy writing and recording the most, especially with my band. That’s what I get the most buzz from, and that’s what I want to spend most of my time doing in the future.

When did you attend Musica Kirklees and what groups were you in?

I began my Musica Kirklees journey when I was about 8 and I started violin lessons. I started in Junior Strings at Musica Shelley and worked my way up to Senior Strings. I also played in Musica Youth Orchestra, which was probably my favourite ensemble that I was in; the tours that we went on were just so unforgettable and I’m still such good friends with so many of the people I met there. But it’s only when I started singing with Musica Youth Jazz that I properly discovered my love for soul and jazz music, which is mainly the genre that I perform now. I don’t think I’d be doing that if it wasn’t for those opportunities from Musica Kirklees.

What is your favourite memory from your time at Musica Kirklees?

I loved the Youth Orchestra tours – I have so many great memories from those. We performed at Disneyland Paris and then got to spend the whole day there. It was truly magical and so unforgettable!

My favourite performance was definitely when I sung Orange Coloured Sky with Youth Jazz at the Royal Albert Hall. That was the moment where I thought ‘Okay, I really want to do this as my career’. It was just so amazing and special – I think about it all the time!
