The Friends of Musica Shelley Scholarship Scheme aims to support children attending local schools by providing funded tuition in a musical instrument or singing.  Places are limited (please see the section on the Application Process for more information).
 
Who Can Apply
Applications can be made for children who meet all of these criteria:
• Are in school year 9 or below
• Attend one of the following schools:

• Do not currently receive any instrumental or singing lessons from Musica Kirklees and/or any other teacher/organisation (excluding whole class tuition at their school)
• Live in a household with a low income which prevents them from accessing music tuition (e.g. the child may qualify for Free School Meals)
• Be enthusiastic to committed to learning to play an instrument/sing
• Have the support of a parent/carer/responsible adult who will encourage their long-term music education with practical support (e.g. listening to and encouraging practising at home)
 
What Successful Scholarship Pupils Receive
Up to 5 years of:
• 15 minute one-to-one tuition at their school or local centre in one instrument with a specialist teacher from Musica Kirklees (max. 33 lessons per academic year)
• Loan of an instrument (subject to availability) for use in lessons and practising at home
• Membership of Musica Shelley’s groups and all Musica Kirklees centres and ensembles
• Essential materials such as music books recommended by their teacher
• Funding towards music exams or assessments relating to their tuition with Musica Kirklees
 
The Application Process
Applications must be made to Musica Kirklees by the stated deadline using this form:


The application form must completed by a parent/carer or responsible adult age 18 or over on behalf of their child. 
After the closing date, non-personal data from applications will be presented to the Friends of Musica Shelley Board at the next board meeting (please see the Terms and Conditions below for details).
Places are limited and we anticipate that we will receive more applicants than we will be able to support with current funding.  With input the Musica Kirklees Area Manager for Shelley, The Friends of Musica Shelley Board will review the applications and make the final selection of which applicants will be awarded scholarships.
Musica Kirklees will inform applicants of the board’s decision.  Details of successful applicants will be shared with Musica Kirklees teachers and lessons will be arranged to start as soon as possible.
  
 
Terms and Conditions
The Friends of Musica Shelley is a voluntary association of parents/carers and supporters of Musica Shelley.  
Musica Shelley is part of Musica Kirklees.  Kirklees Music School trading as Musica Kirklees is a registered charity (no. 1013838) and a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales (no. 2737172).
 
Applications will only be considered for pupils who meet all the criteria outlined in the Who Can Apply section of the Friends of Musica Shelley Scholarship Scheme with Musica Kirklees: Application Guidance and Terms & Conditions
Completion of this form is an application for consideration for a scholarship and does not guarantee an offer of a scholarship
Scholarships can only be used by the pupil stated on the application and are non-transferrable
Pupils in receipt of a scholarship may apply to change their lessons/instrument in writing and the change will be made subject to approval by the Friends of Musica Shelley board and availability
Funding for scholarships can only be used for activities with Musica Kirklees
The decision of the Friends of Musica Shelley in the awarding of scholarships is final
The Friends of Musica Shelley reserve the right to withdraw scholarships at any time if funding becomes unavailable.
 
Scholarships will be awarded for a maximum of 5 years or until the pupil leaves school year 13, whichever is soonest.
 
Pupils may withdraw from the scholarship scheme at any time.
Any instruments loaned as part of the scholarship are the property of the Friends of Musica Shelley and the loan will be a separate contract between the parent/carer/responsible adult and the Friends of Musica Shelley. 
The Friends of Musica Shelley cannot guarantee to supply an instrument.  Should tuition for an instrument and/or an instrument be unavailable, an tuition in an alternative available instrument may be offered.
 
The Friends of Musica Shelley reserve the right to withdraw the funding at any time if the child has irregular attendance, demonstrates a lack of enthusiasm and/or commitment, and/or is not practising for their lessons.
Information provided on the application form must be truthful and accurate otherwise the Friends of Musica Shelley reserve the right to withdraw the funding.
The Friends of Musica Shelley reserve the right to withdraw the funding at any time if the child has irregular attendance, demonstrates a lack of enthusiasm and/or commitment, and/or is not practising for their lessons.
 
Applications are made to Musica Kirklees.  For the purposes of the selection process, Musica Kirklees will share the following non-personal data (NPD) from the application form with the Friends of Musica Shelley:

School
Instrument
Supporting Information
Information contained in the scholarship application form may be shared in accordance with the Musica Kirklees Privacy Policy and Data Protection Policy.
 
Where scholarships are awarded, other NPD shared with the Friends of Musica Shelley may included:
Pupil attendance
Pupil progress
Books, instruments and/or materials that are purchased by the scholarship scheme remain the property of the Friends of Musica Shelley and must be returned at the termination of the scholarship. 
 
Information contained in the scholarship application form is subject to the Data Protection Act 1998/EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2016. Child level data may be shared with the pupil’s schools. Summary level data will be shared with Arts Council England. You have the right to cancel this agreement for the period of 7 working days (not counting weekends) after signing it or the date of the first scheduled lesson, whichever if sooner.
This agreement is governed by English Law.
