The Great North Big Band Jazz Festival at Chester-le-Street lived up to its name this year and we were delighted to be part of the celebrations.
Representing Musica Kirklees were Musica Youth Jazz Orchestra and Musica Colne Valley, Holme Valley and Shelley Big Bands. Sharing the coach up to County Durham were Greenhead College Big Band (led by Mr Dolling, Assistant Principal, Musica Kirklees) and Scissett Youth Band.
After snow caused the festival to be cancelled in 2018, it was extra special this year as there was a bumper number of groups who made it from Kirklees to perform to jazz and big band fans from across the country.
All musicians are to be congratulated for putting on excellent performances. There were also some trophies that came home with us to Kirklees:
Daisy C - best vocalist in a youth band performing with Musica Youth Jazz AND special adjudicator's award in the schools category for her singing with Greenhead College Big Band
Greenhead College Big Band - best programme in their category
Scissett Youth Band - best programme in their category
George - special adjudicator's award for baritone saxophone playing with Scissett Youth Band
