There was a fantastic atmosphere at Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2019.
Amongst the many events, performances and guest artists Musica Kirklees were represented on the Saturday (May 11) in great style. The day started off with a Samba Workshop where families got hands-on with percussion instruments and brought a taste of the carnival to the Holme Valley.
This was followed up with the Schools' Concert at the Civic Hall. A premiere of A Sea Shanties Suite was a highlight of the concert and performances by children from Holme J & I School, Holmfirth J I & N School, Netherthong Primary and Holmfirth High School combined brass music, singing and dancing. There was also a special appearance by the Musica Holme Valley Songwriting group:
In the afternoon the Musica Holme Valley African Drummers were in action with the Honley Samba Band and there was a debut performance from Musica Batley Folk Collective.
Next came the Ukulele Jamboree. Last year there was blazing sunshine. This year the rain didn't dampen the strumming spirit and Holmfirth market rang with the sound of singing and playing.
Finally, Musica Kirklees students Sasha and Ursula Glendinning rounded off the day with a folk/indie/jazz inspired set.
A lot of music in one little town. Congratulations to everyone involved!
