An Inspirational Guitar Day with Gerald Garcia

Guitarists from across Kirklees were treated to a workshop with composer and classical guitarist Gerald Garcia on Saturday, November 12.

The supersized ensemble met at Phipps Hall, University of Huddersfield and was made up of senior and intermediate guitar ensembles from all five Musica Centres.  It was wonderfull to see so many enthusiastic students working together to create a fabulous ensemble.

Gerald and the guitarists were joined by Musica teachers and they were all really impressed by how hard everyone worked and how much progress was made in such a short space of time. Gerald, who normally coaches the National Youth Guitar Ensemble, also complimented the group on being 'such attentive and well behaved students.'

At the end of the day, parents/carers and supporters were invited to a short concert where the day's pieces were performed: Tumbalalaika, Pat A Pan, Flower Drum and Conquest 1492 featuring a theme by Vangelis.

The day was an inspiration everyone and will be memorable for years to come.

There was a collection after the concert that raised £50.75 which will be donated the Royal British Legion via the Mayor's Charity..
